Self Check PDF Print E-mail

Now, six self check stations

For more privacy and to avoid line ups at the counter, the library gives you access to the self check stations. The process for checking out books independently is easy and convenient using a touch screen and your library card. Self check stations are equipped with a receipt printer that will list the items you have signed out and specify the due dates.

Two self check stations are now equipped with unlocking devices, allowing patrons the ability to check out these materials without having to visit the Circulation Desk. Users will be prompted to insert the DVD or CD case in the unlocking device after the checking out all materials at the Print Receipt / No Receipt screen.

History of the self check:
In August 2005 in the Jubilee Centre location, Fort McMurray Public Library installed an express check out system that allows patrons to check out materials on their own. The new system uses radio-frequency identification technology to identify, track and secure materials, allowing staff to spend less time managing the collection and more time serving customers in other areas of need. Thanks to this innovation you will not have to wait while date due cards are checked and completed. RFID allows library staff to scan materials instantly; 3-4 adult books and up to 6 children’s books can be scanned all at once.
