Fort McMurray Public Library Donations Policy

The library welcomes donations of books, foreign language books and DVDs, current magazines, recorded books on CD, music CDs, and documentary and feature films on DVD or Blu-ray disc. Donations should be clean and in good condition. Patrons wishing to donate board games and puzzles in good condition should bring these items to the Children’s Help Desk on the first floor of the library. We will not accept donations of the following items:

VHS tapes

Cassette tapes

Old magazines (including past issues of National Geographic)

Text books

Encyclopedias

Software or hardware manuals in print or on CD-Rom

Consumer price guides

Used materials such as colouring books, scribblers or crossword books

Items dropped off at the library are automatically considered donations and therefore become the property of the library.   All donations are accepted without condition and items will not be returned. Not all donations will be added to the collection and the same criteria used to evaluate purchased material for the library’s collection will apply to gifts and donated materials. Material not added to the collection will be sold in the library, used in the library’s annual book swap, used for outreach purposes, or recycled if in poor condition. Donations added to the collection may subsequently be withdrawn when the items become worn or the content is no longer current. 

The library accepts donations between the hours of 9:00 am and 9:00 pm, Monday through Friday at the Customer Service Desk on the first floor of the library. Please do not donate more items than you can carry to the library.
